The term, if you haven’t already heard it, is used to describe a broad category of apparel designed to be worn both for exercising and for doing (almost) everything else. It’s rooted in leggings, tank tops and sneakers. Think yoga pants and hoodies with a bit of elevated design that looks good in or outside the gym. It’s stylish active wear, designed to be as comfortable for running errands as it is for actual running—but chic, too. Chic enough, some say, to take you from spin class to the coffee shop to the office and then out for a cocktail at happy hour.
Michael Demetriou founded 3 different concept stores that offer such a brilliant range of active as well as athleisure wear. Sneakers inc. you may be familiar with – continue to exceed my expectations whenever I visit them with regards to the variety of stock they carry. They house the latest range of footwear (my soft spot) and active wear at such reasonable prices. The Sneakers inc. kids store recently opened in Mimosa Mall stocking plenty of choices to dress my 2 girls in. StreetCred is the one store you may not be familiar with. It’s been in the CBD for quite some time now, but also opened in Mimosa Mall and even a pop-up store at Preller recently! StreetCred has a different vibe. It’s upmarket and reminds of somewhere overseas. “Kanye meets SA” type of gear. I’m wearing almost all StreetCred gear below!
When I visited StreetCred this month, I wanted EVERYTHING. From the elite Adidas and Puma ranges, to an exclusive Asics and New Balance footwear range. Also Le Coq Sportif and Palladium. I even got a few things that can go with my preggie shape. But oh, these sneaks!
Grey Adidas hoodie (Sneakers inc.) and cream Adidas relaxed pants with light grey asics (gold dots!)
Black Adidas sweater with Adidas relaxed jogger and tan, leather New Balance sneakers. All from StreetCred.
Hazel is wearing Nikes from the kids store.
If you can’t visit them instore, you can order through me and I’ll get it to you anywhere within the country!
